HomeWorx Candles by Harry Slatkin | Review | Creamy Dreamy Vanilla Candle

My first burn of this last night for over five hours left me wondering just what was this fragrance.  I knew I knew it, but the hour was late and I was tired so I extinguished it for the night with the promise of a second burn today.  And as soon as I lit it this morning...I knew.

Thanks for stopping by!
Today I wanted to share another new candle I am burning.
A friend had sent me a few of the new HomeWorx by Harry Slatkin Candles to try and I am excited to share some of my thoughts on the scents and burn of these three wick candles. Please check back often to all of my review posts for updates on all of the burns I talk about as I will be burning them to the bottom of the jar and letting you know what I found out about each.
I started with the Fantastic Fudge Candle first, of course I mean it is chocolate, and today's burn is:
CREAMY DREAMY VANILLA

Initial Thoughts:
I sniffed and I sniffed yesterday when I began to review this candle and it was perplexing to me.  I was burning it in my office from 6:46 pm to 11: 53 pm and it smelled great...so much so that I was enjoying and let it burn a bit too long.

When I burn to review, I take notes and in reading what I wrote, it makes me laugh.  I know what this is...I wrote.  It wasn't until today, during the second burn I realized what scent this is for me.

WHITE CHOCOLATE EASTER CROSS.

I know you just read that and said, "What?"   Sitting here in my sunny office today ( with Easter tomorrow ) it hit me.  It is exactly that creamy vanilla chocolate sweet scent.  Sweet...not sickening sweet. Now you know you want to go find a piece of Easter White Chocolate to smell.  Make sure it is good white chocolate...

My favorite thing at Easter-time is a Baby Binks Hollow Chocolate Bunny and a White Chocolate Cross from Gertrude Hawk Chocolates.

This scent is that white chocolate creamy vanilla scent and I love it!!!  And look...NO Calories!

The burn was perfect.  I thought I was getting nose-blind to the fragrance last night as the ambiance in my office was relaxing me but as soon as I left the room I found the Vanilla scent through the hallway, bedrooms, and downstairs too.  I give this a good 7/8 out of 10....and it also was not overwhelming to be in the same room with it as it burned.

I will continue to burn this candle to the bottom of the jar and add photos to this post so you can see my progress, and read if my scent thoughts change as it progresses.
This Candle should be coming to QVC really soon so keep checking the link I shared above to purchase one for yourself.

HomeWorx Candles by Harry Slatkin | Review | Fantastic Fudge Candle

I started with the Fantastic Fudge Candle first, of course I mean it is chocolate, and here is what I found...

5.5" wide at its base
4.75" wide at the top of the jar

Wick Count:  This is a THREE WICK candle
The weight of the Candle:  The candle weighs approx. 2# 15 ounces
Wax Content: 18 ounces
Burn Time: The label reads it burns for approx. 30 - 55 hours
Year: 2018
Wax Color: White/Cream
Jar Design Features: This candle features a brown, scalloped edge lid with a logo embossed in the center.  The jar has a wrap around label with vertical lines and a rectangle scent name box on the front.  It is designed to inspire an Ice Cream Parlor feel for this collection.
Fragrance Scent Notes:
Dark Chocolate Espresso, Drizzled Caramel, Creamy Coconut, Tonka Bean, Black Vanilla, Brown Sugar

Initial Thoughts:
The first thing I noticed with HomeWorx candles is the weight of them.  It is substantial.  I love the wider base of the candle because it gives the illusion it is resting on a glass pedestal.
The packaging on the Fantastic Fudge is everything. You cannot look at this jar with the stripes and scallops, and not think this scent is going to be ice cream shop related. And we all LOVE the ice cream shop.

Some of my fondest memories as a child was going to the ice cream store with my parents and grandmother.
Every Sunday after church in the warmer weather we would visit my Mothers mom and have Sunday dinner, ( roast chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn) and afterward, we would get in the car and go to Farmers Dairy for ice cream.  The cones always seemed so big in my small hands and my favorite flavor was Teaberry, like the gum, and I could never seem to eat it fast enough before it was dripping off of my chin, and my hands. The store had stripes and scalloped awnings and each visit created a memory that was triggered when I saw this for the first time.

On cold Sniff:
When I lifted the lid my first impression was coffee. Not a coffee, coffee...a rich, deep espresso coffee scent. Delish.  I closed the lid and tried it again and got a chocolate note.  Unsweetened cocoa or bittersweet chocolate.  It was rich and decadent and not a milk chocolate scent but it had a dark kind of creaminess to it.
Then I lit the candle.

My ( first burn ) time total was: 3 hours and 8 minutes
Time: 6:15 pm started, 7:03, 7:44, 8:50, 8:51, 9:21, extinguished 9:23 pm.

This Fantastic Fudge Candle scent is incredible and definitely worth a try.
It burned perfectly for me. I was burning it upstairs in my office and in the three hours I had it lit, it filled my room, the two other bedrooms and it trailed down the stairs.  It is NOT overwhelming and too strong to enjoy in a smaller room which is where I was for the entire first burn. I give it an 8 out of 10.  I will take it downstairs with me for the next burning to see how it fares in larger rooms.
I did use the lid to extinguish the flames ( as Harry shows us on the candle care video  ) and removed the lid once extinguished to allow the smoke to billow away, not contaminate the wax.

As soon as the candle formed a wax pool a more true scent became evident. The espresso notes changed to a creamier fudge chocolate scent, but not a super sweet give you a headache note...or a fake cocoa smell.  It reminded me of when I make fudge and that unsweetened cocoa powder meets the vanilla and the heavy cream sweetness that comes out at you.  Rich, decadent.

The scent notes mention drizzled caramel and I can't be sure because I didn't smell it when warmed.  Creamy coconut?  Again, not sure...Black Vanilla?  Yes, Or is it the Tonka Bean with it?  I have a really good Dark Vanilla that I bake with, and it lets you know it isn't  cheap Vanilla Extract...and that is what I found as the notes were circling my head.  High End!  The Notes mention Brown Sugar...I know brown sugar when I bake but I can't tell they are in this.
This is not cakey...nor bakery to me.

A few final thoughts......
As the candle was burning my husband came by the room I was in and asked me what candle was I burning.  I told him the Fantastic Fudge scent. Now my husband does not pay too much attention to my candle burning at all. Unless it is a terrible scent and he asks me to put it out because he is getting a headache he has no interest otherwise.  It isn't his thing.

What makes me smile is when I told him the scent name, he smiled, shook his head,  looked away and said, " Yep that Harry knows what he is doing."  Later he told me it was the best smelling chocolate he ever smelled.  It wasn't so sweet that you know it's a candle.
And I have to agree.... " Yep, that Harry DOES know what he is doing!"

I will continue to burn this candle to the bottom of the jar and add photos to this post so you can see my progress, and read if my scent thoughts change as it progresses.

Garden of Eatin' | Aunt Honey's Homemade Easter Pie

One of my most favorite foods to enjoy at this time of year is Easter Pie.  A mixture of meats and cheeses baked into a delicious homemade crust, this pie brings back memories of family togetherness during Holy Week cutting everything up and putting it together.  While our family is now scattered, I am blessed that my seventy-eight, almost seventy-nine-year-old aunt still continues this family tradition and shares it with me.  Here is her recipe...

Ingredients needed:
(*please note: we never use pepperoni in the making of the pie as some do, nor did we ever add pasta (ditalini) as filler in our pies)
Ham - 3 pounds diced up
Hatfield Hot Sausage - 1 1/2 pounds - cooked out of the skin casing and drained
Hard Boiled Eggs - 2 dozen diced up
Raw Eggs - 1 dozen
1 Small Basket (from the cheese store) of Tuma Cheese
dry Ricotta Cheese 1 1/2 pounds ( you don't want it too wet, your crust will be soggy)
Parmesan Cheese 1 cup ( romano cheese can be too strong)
A sprinkle of parsley flakes
Crust - top and bottom

Baking Time:
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees  - You will bake the pie(s) for 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees and continue to bake the pies for 55 more minutes.
After Baking, cool the pies on a wire rack. Do not cut into the pies while warm, you want the contents to set up.
Mixing:
Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and place covered in the fridge overnight for the flavors to melt together.

The next day, make your homemade crusts for the pies with a bit of overlap from the bottom layer ( this recipe makes approx. 3, 10" pies ).
Fill the pies pretty level with the baking dish ( glass dishes were used) and cover with a top crust.
Pinch the ends of the top and bottom crust together to seal and pierce the top layer of the crust with a fork to vent.
Baste the top crust with an egg yolk wash - ( no egg whites and a little water ) and Bake!

One other note, we do not add salt or pepper to the mixture when we prep it. We feel the ham lends the salt needed and the hot sausage adds a perfect amount of spice.
All that is left to do is to Eat...and Enjoy.  And enjoy we did today as this is one delicious pie.

Bath & Body Works | New Summer Test Candles | March 26, 2018

The long-awaited release of some summer themed, tropical scents Test Candles has finally happened.  After speaking to a test store that I know usually carries new test candles I found a few photos on Instagram by user @_scentsgalore confirming this and I had to share this newness right away. My thanks to her.
I was told that we will see these candles "test" in stores beginning Monday, March 26th only in stores that usually offer test scents.  I know White Barn stores that have test candles will have these but you can ask at the stores in your area to see if they will have them too.
Also please note, the current candle sale will end tomorrow night, Sunday and candles will not be on sale for Monday's release.
Here is what I know so far...

Until these candles launch, I won't know each collection name, but I have grouped them together so we can get an idea as to what to expect. There are more to come.
